Getting you into the Chennai map results
For a local business, the three map results above the blue links are the whole game. Most profiles in Chennai are half empty, and the ones that are not are winning by default.
The fields nobody fills in
Most businesses add a name, a phone number and a category, then wonder why they never appear on the map. The fields that actually move local ranking are the ones left blank: the primary category, a complete service list, a description that uses the words people search, service areas set to real neighbourhoods, and photos posted regularly.
Your primary category carries more weight than any other single field on the profile. Choosing the most specific accurate one, rather than the broadest, is often the largest single improvement available.
Service areas are where profiles quietly break
This is the most common serious error I find, and it is invisible unless you look for it. If you serve customers at their location rather than yours, Google places your profile at the centre of the area you claim. Claim an entire state and your pin lands in the middle of it — potentially hundreds of kilometres from the city where all your customers actually are.
Proximity is one of the strongest local ranking factors. A profile centred far from its customers is competing with a handicap that no amount of reviews will fully overcome. Narrowing the service area to the neighbourhoods you genuinely serve is frequently the fastest fix available.
Reviews, and the ways they go wrong
Review count, recency and velocity together form the widest gap between most businesses and the ones ranking above them. The work is a system for asking — at handover, at the moment the customer is happiest — not a burst of requests at the end of a quarter.
Pace matters. Twenty reviews arriving in one day on a profile that had two looks bought, and Google filters bursts. Two or three a week, sustained, is worth far more than a batch.
Every review gets an individual reply, because templated responses read as unmanaged to both Google and the person reading them. And nothing is ever offered in exchange for a review — incentivised reviews are a policy violation and a genuine suspension risk.
Posts, photos and the things that get rejected
Photos are a ranking and trust input now rather than decoration, and posting has become a liveness signal — profiles that go quiet for a month show measurable decay in impressions.
There is a trap here worth knowing about. Google silently rejects posts that break its content rules, shows no reason anywhere in the dashboard, and offers only a delete button. Businesses post for months, see nothing appear, and conclude that posting does not work. It does — the posts were being thrown away. Knowing which content triggers a rejection is most of the value.
And what will not be done
No keyword stuffing in the business name — it is the most common shortcut in local SEO and the most common cause of suspension. No fake or shared addresses. No second listing for the same business. A suspended profile costs more than every ranking it was ever going to win.

Common questions
How long until my profile ranks better?
Review velocity can show within two to four weeks. Photo and posting effects accumulate rather than spike, usually becoming visible after four to six weeks. The overall trajectory is normally clear by ninety days.
Should I hide my address?
If you do not serve customers at your location, yes — that is what Google requires for a service-area business, and it is the correct setup for a studio, tradesperson or consultant working from home.
Can you guarantee the top three?
No, and nobody can. Proximity is a factor no one controls. What can be done is to make sure every field, signal and review is working for you rather than against you.
